Our Beginning
In 2018 we noticed that Maastricht lacked a truly international student community. Kaleido, derived from the word Kaleidoscope, is the name of this new community we set out to create. The word is defined ‘a diverse collection’ or ‘a changing pattern or form’ - a fitting definition of Maastricht’s vibrant student population. Students that choose to make Maastricht their temporary home deserve to make the most of their time at university. This has to go way beyond what happens in the library, lecture halls and classrooms.
Our Promise
Above all students are looking for a framework where they are not put into boxes; a framework that encourages personal freedom, without having to commit to being ‘one thing’. A framework that listens and reacts to the students’ needs and wants, and encourages them to try out new things. A framework that accepts them the way they are, where meditation and party are not opposites to be compared but things of equal worth. All of this, and so much more, is possible within the Kaleido community’s framework.
Our Purpose
We encourage others to explore new talents and interests, learn to take matters into their own hands and lead by example. By organising a diverse range of cultural activities we design one-of-a-kind encounters, create memories that last, and share the knowledge and skills to empower others to do the same.
Our Methodology
Everyone should contribute towards making the world a better place, however small that contribution might appear at first. Our position is unique and we have the privilege and responsibility to do things differently: By working inclusively and from the bottom-up, we can prove that our outside-of-the-box thinking and methodologies are as capable of achieving results as are the more traditional ways of doing things.
